Mario's Bellport Car Show July 14, 2024

1948 Lincoln Continental

Bellport Village is a small town on the Southern coast of Long Island, and they held their 5th Annual Car Show on Sunday July 14, 2024. Main Street was closed to traffic in the Village and the car show was hosted by the Bellport Fire Department.

Bellport Village is like Oyster Bay with small shops and borders the Great South Bay on the South side of LI. Oyster Bay is on the North side and borders the Long Island Sound.

Many nice cars and trucks showed up and an Oldies Band played all afternoon to everyone’s enjoyment. The local shops and restaurants were all open to the public.

Enjoy the show, Mario

This was a great show in Bellport Village on Sunday. Unfortunately the Oyster Bay show today July 16 was cancelled due to excessive heat and storms ahead. Enjoy this show! Mario

There were no Chevy Novas at the show Rob, which just makes your Nova more in demand. That's good news for you.

sorry to be in such a rush Mario, I blame my Mom, I was born 3 months premature. That would explain a lot or at least some of this. Plus I worked for FedEx when it absolutely positively had to be there overnight. We are a creature of our past, so as Popeye would say: I YAM what I YAM....

Well let me take a stroll thru all the pics here and see what catches my eye. 1930's High Boy, I think Happy Days opening where there was a High Boy in that. Pic 7 the 1930's Street Rod had me look twice when I thought it was a Plymouth Prowler.

The 1938 Buick Century, there's a box in front of the car and I tried blowing it up to see what was in it. Still can't figure it out. Care to chime in any one? Buehler? Buehler? Hmm crickets..

A lot of nice trucks. I am a truck fan having driven my grandfather's to school for getting all A's on my report card. Okay that's a lie. He loved me, and I loved him. Case closed.

I took a real ribbing driving the truck to school as many of the abusive schoolmates asked me if I needed that size vehicle to take my date to the prom. I fooled them, I didn't go. I went to the drag races instead. I had my priorities right.

It's nice seeing how cool a stock 1976 Fire Chicken can look to this day. Thanks Pontiac for trying to feed us motorheads with cars like this.

I guess for security there was the Hulk Truck and the Batmobile. That should cover the event if any trouble broke out.

And it's always nice to see a Biscayne. Us plain folks need to feel appreciated when we couldn't afford the top dogs in the kennel.

I drove a 4 door Plymouth Fury 1, slant 6. But if you took the air cleaner off and turned it upside down, it sounded like a hemi, with asthma.

Nice work Mario and okay on the Nova. I need to soon post a pic of my Nova. I've been spending most of my time waiting for parts so I've been tweaking the front fenders and hood for good alignment seams. They say to use a paint stick. I used the popsicle stick. I went through a lot of popsicles in this heat let me tell you.

Keep'm shiney, keep'm stock, keep'm modified, keep'm tuned, keep'm rare, but always KEEP'M.

Okay let me go flip that air filter lid back or my grandmother will think I broke her Fury. Cheers.

Thank you Rob for all your wonderful back stories and all your comments on the Bellport Village Car Show. Lots of Hot Rods and Street Rods showed up besides the classics in this 5th Annual Car Show sponsored by the Bellport Fire Department.

Bellport is a small Southern Long Island town that had residents like Supermodel Cheryl Tiegs and Comedian Soupy Sales. There are a lot of Marinas and Beaches for the residents making this a nice town to live in.

Cheers to you, Mario

Yes Soupy Sales! His real name was Milton Supman (January 8, 1926 – October 22, 2009) died of cancer at age 83. I remember watching a show where he asked all the "kiddies" to go into their Mom's pocketbook take out a 1 dollar bill and mail it to Soupy Sales and he gave the address. Well he ended up getting several hundred dollars and the network fired him! What a character he was!

Hey, is THAT what happened to my $1?????????

I could've bought a tooth rotting load of penny candy with that.

My Mom told me I was too young to have a poster of Cheryl Tiegs in my room

Rules rules rules.....tough being a kid but I made it to here..and I'm not sure what HERE is!! :-)

Sorry you lost your dollar to Soupy Sales Rob. But it was a valuable lesson learned. Don't give money to actors or politicians, actually it's the same thing!

I must say, every time I see a BUBBLE TOP, I think that roof line adds so much to the car.

I had 2 convertibles in my life and I'm more of a hardtop guy and wow, I'll just leave it there. WOW.

Bubble Tops were a great idea but I think they were phased out due to rollover safety reasons. The C pillars were too small and narrow for the support needed. Good topic though.

Great choice George. That 62 Biscayne is showroom condition and well kept. Kind of a rare car since most 62 Chevy's are Impalas. Cheers, Mario
