Mario's Oyster Bay Car Show July 23, 2024

1962 Chevy Bel Air Bubbletop

Our 8th weekly car show was held Tuesday July 23, 2024 in our town of Oyster Bay, NY.

The OB Car Show was cancelled last Tuesday July 16 due to excessive heat and storms.

This was another fun-filled day with Street Rods and Classic Cars streaming down Main Street, which was closed to traffic, to the delight of the spectators.

The local shops and restaurants were all open to the public and another great 6-piece Rock Band was playing Oldies all day into the evening.

Enjoy the show, Mario

Another great car show in Oyster Bay. A big treat was seeing my first Tesla Cybertruck at a car show. I've seen a few on the road but not up close. Enjoy, Mario

Hey there Mario, I, like you finally got to see my first Cybertruck. It was parked at our local hospital evidently driven by one of the doctors.

The one I viewed was still in it's stock dull aluminum body and I made several laps around the truck not changing my opinion but verifying it.

THIS TRUCK IS UGLY. Sorry Elon....

If anyone would look at the specs on this truck, it's range and towing potential etc, they had better run not walk to a dealer selling a fossil fuel TRUCK.

I do want to thank you for the Nova posts, the 1971 fits my needs nicely.

If pizza delivery drivers all looked like the one in pic 12, I'd be a pizzaholic in no time.

I left the 62 Bel Air Bubble Top for George to choose. That's what friends do. 4 speed too!

I believe I'll choose the 56 Bel Air convertible and me and wifey will head to the drive inn for our 29th anniversary to see what's playing beside us in the back seat. Please remember to dim your lights entering and leaving the drive inn. And since the car is so nice, we will eat at the refreshment stand.

Oh by the way the 1969 Camaro Z/28 looks exactly like the one my high school friend picked me up in when I was doing the shoe leather express. Daddy just bought it for him. Wow...first time I heard the Chambered Exhaust I was hooked.

Well my Nova will be going to see an electrician for some much needed electrical rewiring and sorting and removal. Sadly it now only starts when you pull the headlight switch out. Lots of wires that lead to who knows where. She's on the trailer as we speak headed to see Dr. Rewire.

Excuse me while I gather myself.

Rob

Hi Rob thank you for all your comments and varied stories. I'm not liking the Cybertruck either. Looks like it's from the Jetsons. Not much appeal and I think Elon should get out of the car building industry. I hope he's better at building space craft.

The 56 Chevy is a beauty. One of my all time favorites cars. And the color is absolutely 50's. A real winner.

I like the 69 Camaro Z28 having owned a 69 Camaro SS350 but not that color green. Any other color would have been good for me. A deeper Forest green would be better.

And yes the Pizza girl got a lot of attention. I've tried Dominos Pizza here in NY and it tastes like cardboard. I guess that's why the girl is in the delivery vehicle.

I hope you get your electrical issue fixed on your Nova. Sounds like crossed wires somewhere but finding it could be rough. Good Luck with that! Cheers, Mario

Hmmmm let me see now, what flavours do I feel like today. The 1956 Chev Bel Air, 1971 Chev Nova SS, 1964 Vette, 1962 Chev Bel Air and 1969 Camaro Z/28. Now there is no need for the rest of you guys to not be happy with the rest of the pickings. Rob, thank you for leaving me the 62 Chev. That was very gracious of you sir and I completely agree with your comment on that discusting looking Tesla truck...yuk. Mario, keep up the weekly car show stuff, it is appreciated. Cheers mates.

Hi George thank you for your comments and great picks. You are truly a Chevy and GM aficionado! And the 62 Bel Air Bubbletop is a sure winner.

Thank you for leaving me the 57 Chevy. My other favorite Chevy of the Fifties. I took my road test in one and passed first time!

Well we have a 3 for 3 vote against the Cybertruck so I'm forced to remove it as my thumbnail on this page. I think I'll add the 62 Bubbletop in its place. Cheers to you. Mario

It's kind of funny how looking at the 64 Satellite, I can see what must have been MOPARS attempt at their version of a BUBBLE TOP. Look how small the contact spot is on the rear fender of the C pillar. Not much there.

As you said and I understand I'm sure it was phased out, maybe grudgingly by the carmakers after the insurance or FEDS got involved in the rollover safety of cars.

But it sure makes for a pretty design.

That's a good observation you make Rob and besides the small C pillar look at the rear window. It actually bubbles out like the Chevy and Pontiac Bubble Tops. It's not just the top that bubbles but also the rear window. Good post!
