John's 63 Studebaker Avanti

Under Restoration

My Avanti prior to its restoration.

Studebaker 289 CID block bored 0.060" with new KB Silvolite Hypereutectic Pistons. Engine will be Supercharged (Paxton), with R3 valves, aluminum intake & R3 exhaust headers. Will add Edelbrock AFB & Mopar electronic ignition.

Heads were ported and set up for larger valves. Bench tested air flow improvement of 25%.

Chassis was powder coated. 4 wheel disc brakes, Dana 44 with new Moser flanged axles, Auburn Gear posi-trac, Tremec TKO 5 speed to be added. Wheels are Halibrand 5-spokes.

Studebaker Avanti had bodies of fiberglass made by the same company as Corvette. Here's the body after being finished in the paint booth. It is now sporting Chrysler Inferno Red Crystal Pearlcoat as its color.

My parents had a Studebaker when I was a girl. They were very proud of their sleek, modern car. I'm glad to see it's still around. I love the Inferno Red Crystal Pearlcoat. I'll bet that's gorgeous in the sunlight.

Our neighbor in Missoula, Montana was a Realtor, Mr. Dixon. He had a beautiful white Avanti.... I remember marvelling at it's sleek appearance, and the dials on the inside ceiling!!
