1963 Studebaker Avanti 289/289HP

Supercharged and Air Conditioned

I, like Richard Poe, have raced the Avanti at the PSMCDR for the past 10 years. The best time for the Avanti is 14.1 at 101.5 mph

The car weighs 3810 lbs and includes air conditioning which is non factory.

Nice! I didn't know that Studebakers could be ordered with a supercharger.

A really GREAT looking car, with an awesome sound burbling from the twin pipes.

Brandon: The unique characteristic of Peter's R2 Avanti is that it has both air conditioning and a supercharger. During 1963 and 1964, you could order a high-performance Studebaker with either one, but not both.

When you see an air conditioned, supercharged 1963 or 1964 Studebaker, look for some nicely-crafted custom fabrication in the engine room (like Peter's), because it won't be all-Studebaker parts. BP

I've had the pleasure of seeing this car heat up the tracks at the PSMCD. This is no babied Sunday hot rod. This thing gets driven!

Peter's Kool R 2 probably gets driven more than any other car at the PSMCDR and runs and sounds great!

Hey there! How did you get factory AC with an r2 engine? I have literally never seen or heard of that, I thought the supercharger made the AC impossible.

It is not a factory A/C Setup. I had a local machine shop fabricate brackets and moved the alternator slightly to fit. Small compressors make the job a lot easier.
