CHAPTER 9

MEMORY LANE -- 1993 July 4th

P.S. FINAL, FINAL EXPLOSION STORY

I know, I know, the last Dina explosion story was to be the last of the explosion series, but fortunately or unfortunately, roseann an old time neighbor, prompted my brain with her last comment about the "shattered windows" to bring forward what I now believe to be the "P.S..final, final, true explosion story" on July 4th, 1993......

As I recall, there was a neighbor, at that time in life, that lived directly across the street from my home........The story and rumor goes that this neighbor was somehow connected, if you know what I mean, and usually people of this nature always seem to enjoy doing great fire work attractions for all to enjoy...

I personally for one, have gotten to dislike fireworks more and more over the years as they have become larger and larger.......What I mean by this comment, is that after the fireworks were about done, many of the neighbors would sweep up the residue from these fire crackers into a pile in the street, pour gasoline on the pile and than ignite it which can be dangerous........also, instead of shooting the rockets up into the air, they would sometimes lay them on the ground and shoot them up the street causing the ignited rockets to go underneath automobiles which can also be quite dangerous...... At one time this kind of " fun ? " was going on in many parts of the city......And maybe other parts of the country as well........ Don't misunderstand me, because I certainly enjoy fireworks, just as much as anyone else, but those that are performed by professionals under controlled situations.......Lately the police have done an extraordinary job in keeping this July 4th firework celebration under much more controlled situations.........

Well anyway, on July 4th, 1993 while I walked down the driveway of my home and Liz was about to step out the front door of our home, a huge blast from the party across the street would send me flying back in the driveway and also prevent Liz from stepping out of the door.......What had happened was that because the police were trying to stop the illegal firework demonstrations locally and also on the local beaches, the neighbor across the street who had gone to the beach, left the beach area to return to his home.........Immediately upon returning to his home, one of his friends and unbeknownst to my neighbor, this "friend" would take out from the trunk of his car a professional receptacle rocket exploder (mortar) to create the beautiful type of firework displays high up in the sky.........Only problem was, that not being a professional fireworks provider he would mistakenly and without realizing himself, place the live charge upside down in the receptacle.......

Not only did the blast send me flying back and prevent Liz from exiting the front door, it also blew out the windows in front of our home along with other homes in the neighborhood, it broke another neighbors truck windshield and side window, it blew out his very own neighbors entire electricity in his home, it knocked down another neighbors in home break front causing extensive damage to all his life long saved collectibles, and caused this neighbor to sell his home and move and I'm sure cause many other damages that I am not aware of........It is a good thing that the rocket receptacle held together otherwise the shrapnel would/could have caused extensive casualties...........

People from other neighborhoods came running to this area to see what had happened as the very loud explosion brought out their curiousity.....The neighbor that caused all of this damage did agree, and as far as I know, paid for all "damages out of pocket".....He than also sold his home and moved away from the neighborhood....

As there were no cell phone cameras or any hidden security cameras in this area at that time, I have found the best video below to describe this "1993 P.S...FINAL, FINAL EXPLOSION STORY"..............Nick......May 12, 2011.......
