CHAPTER 31
PRESIDENTIAL WEEKEND in KEYWEST, FLORIDA
Memory Lane - Saturday February 14 thru Monday February 16, 2015
**********************************************************************
Saturday was Valentines Day and also an Anniversary day for Elizabeth and I as we first met on this day in 1959 exactly 57 years ago....The Red Barn Theatre on Duval Street was featuring a play called, "Clark Gable Slept Here" so we arranged through a friend that was a volunteer at this theatre to set up six reserved seats for Mark G, Dina G, Michelle G, Eric G, Elizabeth M and myself Nick M....The Play turned out to be very funnyyy as it concerned a story line containing the full gammit of murder, Hollywood, sex and the Golden Globe Awards.....The theatre contained 88 seats and we were right up front thanks to Michelle, our working 25 year volunteer friend...
Just before entering the theatre, Eric and I had been discussing other Art-sey towns that featured Play House Theatres around the eastern parts of the country that included Philly which bought up the actor Sylvester Stallone and his "Rocky" Film....As one would have it one of the first subjects that came up during the play by one of the stage actors was Sylvester Stallone...(physic)...
As for Clark Gable, the Hollywood Mongol that was in charge of this murder mystery indicated that Clark Gable was also gay back in the day and was also involved with a gay dwarf such as in this play...When he was asked if this was true, his reply was "who knows as anything is possible in Hollywood.!!!
On that same evening after the play we were able to see the television SNL40 Anniversary Show that was the best ever yet...I am sure many of those people reading this Chapter 31 have also watched this SNL40 Show....
The next day being Sunday we had made arrangements to go to 'Truman's Little White House' to witness a discussion between a moderator with the descendants of President Truman, President Eisenhower and President Ford that turned out to be very informative and it is my understanding that the complete interview will be placed on You tube.....I will attempt to find this video and place it at the bottom of this Chapter 31 for those individuals wishing to view this phenomenal interview...
The interview went very well with the exception of an Activist that slowly worked his way up to the microphone to speak about his personal agenda but was quickly moved off the mic as the over 200 attendances and the moderator were able to get him to leave without further problems.....This may or may not be on the 'interview film' depending on the editing done.....
On Monday the day of the 'Presidents Day' we traveled north on Key West to enjoy the big ships, schooners and many other ships in the waters off the Island...We than enjoyed lunch in the Conch Republic Seaford Restaurant....The evening was set aside for dining over a neighbors home by the names of Ed and Janis who also owned a small dog.!!!..What kind of dog...?...You guessed it - a pug dog that looked very similar to Dina's Harley Pug Dog...Now that makes three such dogs in my life....
.....So like they say, "Life is just so good.!!!"....
I might also add that the temperature for these three days, with the exception of the cooler evenings was in the low 70s...Also the following link will furnish further data concerning Met Life and the Pan Am Buildings...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MetLife_Building ...
Based on information that I received today on May 26, 2016 from my good friend Ed Purfield who also worked at MetLife before his retirement at the California Office, part of the MetLife Tower located on 24th Street in Manhattan has been turned into a Hotel and uses a different address ~ For the full story click on this link ~ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolitan_Life_Insurance_Company_Tower
