In Feb 2014 a sinkhole damaged the 1 millionth Corvette along with 7 other rare Corvettes in the National Corvette Museum at Bowling Green, Ky. The Corvettes tumbled into a sinkhole that opened beneath the museum’s Skydome area. After many months and 1,200 man-hours of painstaking craftsmanship, restoration of the milestone 1 millionth Corvette was completed.

I remember this amazing story right after it happened. Seeing those images of those Vettes in the hole, do not look real to me. They look like toy models in a diorama. Almost kind of spooky and eerie looking. I wonder what the total cost to GM was, to restore all the cars and the building.

There were 7 Corvettes seriously damaged altogether of which half are restored or being restored. I'm thinking they had insurance to cover this but if not these cars are priceless and important to the museum.

Mario, Would you mind if I copied this page and placed it on the Corvette Forum? You've done so much work on all these milestone cars and I'd like to share this page with the other members. You may become more popular than a politician if I do. If you'd rather not I understand. Your work, your call. Thanks, Rob
