Colorized Mario's Tribute to C2 Corvette 1963 to 1967

Corvette C2 1963 to 1967

1963 Second generation C2 Corvette introduced Sting Ray to the model, with fiberglass body, and overall smaller than the first generation. Quad headlamps were retained but newly hidden.

1963 First-ever Corvette coupe, a fastback with a long hood and a raised windsplit that ran the length of the roof and down the back on a pillar that bisected the rear and the window. Only Split Window Corvette coupe made.

1963 327ci 360hp. A more efficient alternator replaced the old-fashioned generator. Independent rear suspension created by Duntov.

1963 A full set of round gauges included a huge speedometer and tach. The control tower center console returned, containing the clock and a vertically situated radio. Production was 21,513.

1964 The two simulated air intakes were eliminated from the hood, though their indentations remained.

1964 Chevrolet made only evolutionary changes to the Corvette. The Coupe had a full size rear window. And it was designed for better rear viewing.

1964 327ci 365hp.

1964 Production was up slightly to 22,229.

1965 Styling alterations were subtle, confined to a smoothed-out hood now devoid of scoop indentations, a trio of working vertical exhaust vents in the front fenders.

1965 The Corvette Sting Ray became ferocious with the mid-year debut of the Big-Block 396 cu in engine producing 425 hp.

1965 396ci 425hp. Four-wheel disc brakes were also introduced in 1965.

1965 Production was 23,562.

1966 Frontal appearance was mildly altered with an eggcrate grille insert to replace the previous horizontal bars, and the coupe lost its roof-mounted extractor vents.

1966 Corvettes also received an emblem in the corner of the hood for 1966. Head rests were a new option soon to be standard.

1966 New Big Block 427ci 425hp with 11 to 1 compression.

1966 Production was 27,720.

1967 Five smaller front fender vents replaced the three larger ones, and flat-finish rockers sans ribbing conferred a lower, less chunky appearance.

1967 The 1967 Corvette Sting Ray was the last Corvette of the second generation, and five years of refinements made it the best of the line. New was a single backup light above the license plate.

1967 427ci 435hp. From its ground-breaking design to the small and big-block V-8s that powered it, no model better symbolizes the beauty, athleticism and desirability of the Corvette C2 especially the 1967.

1967 Revised upholstery, and the handbrake moved from beneath the dash to between the seats. Production was 22,940.

WOW! Much improved C2 Corvette over the C1! The Best of the Best in my opinion. What's not to like: Bigger monster engines, more HP, the new Stingray, independent suspension, hidden headlamps, 4 wheel disc brakes, hi compression engines, lighter bodies, and the list goes on! These are the most collected and most desirable of all the Corvettes! I'll take any year C2. Enjoy!

No doubt in my mind the best of vintage collectible Vette's. The best on so many levels and then some. Any 63-67 Vette would suit my taste but the 63 split window or the 67 427 would turn my crank around a number of times. Cheers.

Now you're talking turkey George! The 63 split window and the 67 are the Beginning and the End of the C2's!!! I hear Rob is looking to get one of those. Cheers!

Mario, Mario, Mario, I know you made this thread JUST FOR ME. But I will allow you to share it with others. I only ever owned 2 C2s and enjoyed them both. Now, I would need your money, George's money and Dave's money to buy one. Amazing how the car market is NUTS NUTS and NUTS. I used to think $30K was a lot for my first C2 15 years ago. $30K won't even buy you a frame now. So, unless there's a miracle, I don't see another C2 in my lifetime. But I can always enjoy others C2s and memories of mine.

Thanks for making this JUST FOR ME..... A lot of people have told me how SPESHUL I am. I hope they meant in a good way.

Rob

Yes Rob I made this C2 Page Just For You! I also did one on the C1's hope you get to see it.

Actually I was thinking of you when I was doing the C2 Page and looking at the current prices for these fabulous cars! Wow, they sure have gone up in the last couple of years!!!

It's like the housing market today. You have to own one to be able to buy one after selling the one you own!

Cheers, Mario

Do you have pictures of the 2 C2's you owned? What years were they and what engines. Just curious.

I'll dig around and see if I can find them. They were both 1964s, called the ugly redheaded stepchild of the C2s because the are or were the cheapest due to them not having disc brakes, big blocks, split windows and etc. But I found they have the nicest dash of all the ones.

I even have a Tee Shirt with the 64 logo on it calling owners "THE SECRET SOCIETY". The secret is out, now 64s are no longer the least expensive.

And to find COUPES!!!!

That saying when the top goes down the price goes up no longer applies as coupes are now in demand. Mine were both coupes, with 327s, and 4 speeds. No frills, no extras, just a good looking owner and driver with that cheese smile you say right before the flash on the camera.

My C2s were simple, which they say you can tell a lot about a person by his car.

Now, where could those pics be? I see them in my head.........and lots of things go there to get lost and never heard from again. Ask me how I know.

I'm still working on procuring my "last" C2. Car is about 3.5 hours away. A 1966 that spent it's life in CA. Started out as a big block 427/390 4 speed. That engine was removed and a 327 was installed during the gas crunch. It still has the 327, 427 whereabouts is unknown.

It's a modified body with fender flares and wide wheels and tires. The car had a complete fresh down to bare fiberglass custom paint job 15 years ago.

And it's a coupe. I love coupes. Maybe because I grew up on a farm and we had plenty of coupes for our chickens.

We shall see what happens in the next 10 days. I'm hoping to bring it home. We have established a price. Now it's time to see if the car meets those price expectations and my scrutiny.

I'll be happy to start a new thread on this C2, if a deal can be completed. We shall see.

Wow Rob a 66 Corvette Coupe 327! How awesome is that! I'm happy to hear you found that.

I love the small front grille and the chrome bumpers front and back. They remind me of my 69 Camaro bumpers.

I wish you all the luck and good fortune that the 66 meets and exceeds your expectations.

I look forward to seeing a new thread on your 66 Vette find. Cheers!
