Some of my model car collection.

Vintage models built from 1973 to 1996.

I have been an avid plastic model car builder since the age of about 8 or 9 years old. I think it was the beginning of a life long love affair with vintage cars and it taught me some skills. I think my automotive mechanical skills got the impetus from building model cars. There were some planes, boats and motor bikes but the main focus was always vintage cars. I had countless cars before these shown here but my younger siblings destroyed so many of my models growing up. I had six younger siblings and some of them destroyed my records, my car magazines and my model cars. These car models here represent some of the kits I built from 1973 to 1996. I no longer have the patience to build them and I have over a dozen unbuilt models that maybe one day I will build. Check out the kits and cheers.

1956 Chev 150 coupe. 1/25 scale. Missing the side trim. This kit was originally a Bel Air and I dropped it down to the lesser level 150 model.

1956 Chev 235 six. The engine should be blue. This kit came with a 265 V-8 engine but I had an extra Chev in line six and thought that a 150 should have an entry level six and not an eight.

1957 Chev Bel Air coupe. 1/25 scale. One of the very very few kits that I built modified. This one because it only came that way.

Chev big block power.

1960 Pontiac. 1/25 scale.

1960 Pontiac Bonneville.

1957 Chev Bel Air coupe.

1956 Chev Bel Air hardtop. 1/25 scale. That hood bird seems a little bit over sized.

1956 Chev 265 V-8. Dual quads.

1937 Chev coupe. 1/25 scale.

1937 Chev 216 six.

1957 Chev Bel Air hardtop. 1/25 scale.

1957 Chev 283 V-8 220 h.p. Power Pack.

1957 Chev Nomad. 1/16 scale. This has always been my dream car.

1957 Chev 283 V-8 220 h.p. Power Pack.

1958 Chev Impala H.T. 1/25 scale.

1958 Chev 348 V-8 four barrel.

1959 Chev Impala. Top down. 1/25 scale. I love this kit because of all the amazing detail. The very last kit I built in 1996.

Top up.

Top down.

That very iconic view.

1959 Chev 348 V-8. Tri power.

1957 Chev Bel Air. 1/16 scale.

1957 Chev 283 V-8 Power Pack.

1955 Chev Bel Air. 1/16 scale.

1955 Chev 265 V-8 2 barrel.

1957 Chev Bel Air H.T 1/16 scale.

1957 Chev 283 V-8. Power Pack.

1955 Chev Nomad. 1/16 scale.

1955 Chev 265 V-8. 2 barrel.

1955 Chev Bel Air H.T. 1/16 scale.

1955 Chev 265 V-8. 2 barrel.

The only kit I have ever built with seat belts.

1953 Chev Bel Air H.T. 1/25 scale.

1953 Chev 235 six. The engine should be blue.

1951 Chev Bel Air H.T. 1/25 scale. My dads very first car was a 1952 entry level coupe that he bought in 1954.

1951 Chev 216 six.

1955 Chev Cameo Carrier. 1/25 scale. As far as I am concerned, this is the most beautiful truck... period.

Gate up.

Gate down.

1955 Chev 265 V-8. 2 barrel.

1962 Pontiac Bonneville. 1/25 scale.

1962 Chev Bel Air H.T. Drag super stocker. 1/25 scale.

1962 Chev 409 V-8. Dual quad... four speed... posi traction 409. She's real fine.

You are never too old to play with (mature) toys. 1985.

George, I am more than happy to be the first to give you not only one thumbs up but two. You're a man after my own heart with that model collection. Some of my favorite childhood memories were building models. And it wasn't

just to sniff the glue. They say it caused brain damage. We'll just leave that alone. I love the customized wheel openings and all the RED DOTS on the AC Delco period correct batteries.

I wish I could build models at my age now but sadly arthritis and the loss sense of touch at the end of my fingers won't allow me to handle the parts anymore.

My last builds were of the large scale model. I did a C2 Corvette a few years back. It sits gathering dust as I watch the mirrors and chrome trip sadly fall off the model from time and age.

Sadly George we have a shared story of our trophies being destroyed by family. I had a cousin who went nuts with my baseball bat and decided to knock down every plane I had hung from the ceiling and and crush every car I had on my display stand.

I was told to forgive her as she had some sort of mental disease and didn't know what she was doing.

So my small collection of mostly Corvettes set collecting dust now.

Thanks for sharing your collection and great work on the color choices too....

I used to wish sometimes I could shrink myself and get in one and take it for a drive. Maybe there is something to that myth about sniffing Testor's Glue afterall.......

Excellent George! It's incredible you still have these cars and in great condition. They are all superb! I can see you are a true GM fan and love the Chevys. The detail work is amazing and the paint jobs are fantastic. You have a steady hand.

I know how tedious and time consuming it is to build these models as I too started around 8 years old building them. Unfortunately my 2 younger brothers got to them and destroyed them.

I like all your models and you have some unusual ones that are rare to see. I hope you have a nice way of displaying them so you can admire them every day. You spent a lot of man hours building these.

Great job George and thank you for sharing the pictures with us. Cheers, Mario

Rob and Mario, thank you for the kind comments. These were all a labor of love but I had a mountain of patience and good health back then. Now with bad eye sight and lower back issues, it is too difficult to sit for a long period of time to build kits. Mario, I use to have all of my kits on display behind glass when I had the room to do so. Now I do not have the room, so all my kits are safely packed away in house storage. Some day they will all be on display again. I built a number of Ford kits as well, like 1949, 1936, 1956 and 1932 but they were all destroyed by some of my younger siblings a long time ago. Now that I am fully retired I am going to make an attempt to build some of my many kits that are unbuilt. Just to name a few that I have left unbuilt are. 1956 Chev Nomad in 1/24 scale, 1955 Chev Bel Air post coupe in 1/24 scale, 1957 Chev Nomad in 1/24 scale, 1961 Chev Impala SS 409 in 1/24 scale and a number of other Chev kits from the fifties. Thanks again for the kind words and cheers.

Those are great kits you have left George. It would be nice if you can build one. Go slow, it's very tedious but rewarding when finished. And you don't have to worry about your brothers destroying them!

The 55 Chev post and the 61 409 sound good to me. Very good picks. But you pick the easiest one to start. One kit at a time. Cheers, Mario

Mario, I have to correct you sir. My brother Mike who is the second youngest in the family was not the culprit. I have five younger sisters and most of them were the nasty model car killing gang. My brother Mike, who is an old car guy himself, knew better even at a very young age. Cheers.

Oh sorry George I didn't know of your 6 younger siblings that 5 were your sisters who were the culprits! I thought you would have had more brothers than just Mike. I have 2 sisters and 2 brothers younger than me and it was my 2 brothers that wrecked my models. My sisters wrecked their dolls though! I being the oldest didn't have many toys so I took care of them. Thank you for the clarification. Cheers my friend. Mario

Hey Geo, just came back to revisit your model collection. I sure miss mine. The hours I spent in my bedroom hunkered over a model, dreaming as a kid, someday I'll own this car. My model building hobby kept me busy as when I finished one, I had saved up enough to go shop the isle at the local Western Auto to see what caught my eye.

Very nice detail work and the ones with the mods look great.

Well, thanks for letting me visit the model store off hours. It's 2AM and I'm having one of those restless nights. I'll lock the door when I leave.

Rob
