Thunder Downunder

A bit of Kiwi muscle

1972 Chevrolet Statesman, factory 350 & TH400. This is my old car with a mild 350, tricked TH400 & disc brake 9" with 3.25 gears on a Detroit Locker.

Another one of my old cars. A 1974 Holden Torana running a tunnelrammed 355 sbc, 4 bolt main, steel crank, O rods with ARP bolts, TRW forged pistons, top & bottom stud kit & headers with Flowmasters. Trans is a shift-kitted TH350 with a B&M 3500 stall. Rearend is a discbrake 9" with 3.9 gears on a spool.

My old car. 1970 Holden GTR Torana. Originally factory 6cyl but this one's running a screaming 331 sbc, tunnelramed with twin 600v/s, Crane solid cam, Crane roller rockers, port & pollished 461 fuellie heads, steel crank, TRW forged pistons, balanced. Trans is a shift-kitted TH400. Rearend was standard factory which kept blowing.

My old bike. 1999 Yamaha R1. Ported & flowed head, V&M cams, Wiseco forged pistons (12.4:1), lightened & balanced crank, Dyna 2000 ignition, NOS Fogger kit, Arrow light-weight full race exhaust. 172rwhp without the nitrous.

My old car. 1967 Chev Biscayne, hi-perf 396, TH350 & 12 bolt. This was a nice old car that got crashed into by an idiot & was written off.

My old dragcar. 1971 Holden GTR Torana.

Engine: Chev 352ci, fully studded GM 4 bolt block, GM steel crank, Manley 6" rods, +20 Venolia custom nitrous pistons, Erson roller cam, Comp Cams roller lifters, Comp Cams belt drive, Melling HV oil pump, Moroso HD pump drive, Hamburger sump, ported & flowed Brodix -8 heads with 2.08" & 1.625" Manley stainless valves, Crane roller rockers, Manton pushrods, Victor Ram with twin 660 c/s, NOS Pro Fogger & twin plates running a total of 350hp gain, MSD 7AL2, MSD Pro billet dissy, MSD Pro coil, MSD Multi-step retard, MSD crank trigger, Taylor .409 leads, Weiand electric water pump.

Trans: Powerglide with transbrake, 6200rpm stall, TCI trans blanket, Hurst 1/4 stick.

Rearend: Ford 9", nodular head with billet caps, triple bearing pinion support, MW full spool, MW 35 spline axles, Richmond 4.86 gears.

Misc: Mallory 250gph pump for engine, Mallory 140gph pump for nitrous, RCI fuel cell, CE wheelie bars, Simpson parachute.

Back in 1995 this car was the national title holder in Super Street for 8yrs with a 9.191 @ 144.69; the existing record was 10.36. It ran 10.03 @ 134 with no nitrous, 1.26 60ft times & had a PB of 9.06 @ 148mph. It was also the fastest street-legal door car in the country for 8yrs.

I bought this from the Pomona Swapmeet in April '08. 1972 Chev Nova, supercharged 355, TH350 & 9" rear.

I also bought this from Pomona. 1970 Chev SS Nova, factory 396. This is a real nice car.

And I bought this from Pomona '08. 1984 Mustang, 347 Windsor, SVO block, Eagle steel crank, Eagle 3-D rods, Canfield heads, Trickflow EFI intake, Vortech V7 Ysi supercharger, Mikes glide trans, 2800rpm stall, 8.8 Ground Pounder rearend, adjustable Koni's front & rear, Wilwood brakes. Has run 9.55 over the 1/4 with 1.30 60ft.

And I like them so much I bought another one of these from Pomona. 1966 Chev Impala s/w, factory 396. This is a very nice original car.

A friends Bickel built Pontiac, 632 Pontiac with nitrous, Lenco. Has run a best of 6.8 @ 209.

A friends Nissan ute. Currently one of the fastest true streetcars. Runs a 434 sbc with nitrous making 1000ft/lb @ 4700rpm. Has run a best of 9.4.

Mates old ute. 1972 Holden ute, blown 406.

Another friends ute. 1972 Holden, 377 sbc, glide, 9". Has run a best of 9.88 n/a.

My old Statesman at a burnout comp.

My car. 1992 Holden VP SS Commodore.

BODY: '92 VP SS Commodore, '94 VR front, VR Group A touringcar carbon fibre front airdam, VR Group A touringcar adjustable rear wing, leather interior.

ENGINE: 310ci Group A engine. 4 bolt main, steel crank, factory rods with ARP bolts, balanced, forged pistons (11.46:1), Group A D-port heads, Comp Cams springs, Crane roller rockers, Isky 505T cam, Group A twin throttlebody intake (EFI), Cosworth 400cc injectors, Autronic ECU, NOS nitrous kit.

GEARBOX: Borg Warner T5 5spd manual, staggered 6 finger paddle clutch with ceramic tips & hi-tensile solid centre, 2300lb pressure plate.

DIFF: Holden IRS, 3.46 LSD, Group A disc brakes.

SUSPENSION: Front; Noltec-race adjustable strut tops, custom springs, Koni externally adjustable inserts. Rear; custom springs, Monroe gas shocks.

PERFORMANCE: 332hp at the wheels without the nitrous.

Engine in the yellow Commodore.

Me on my old '99 R1 at a burnout comp.

My '98 R1 with the Britten. This particular Britten belongs to my mates father & it is the only one to ever achieve a milestone... winning at Daytona.

This is one of our fastest true streetcars.

Another one of our fastest true streeters. BBC540 with NOS.

Currently the fastest true streetcar. '56 Chev, twin turbo'd 538ci BBC, 8.3 @ 161.

Thanks Dave. We struggle down here with dragracing due to there being virtually no sponsorship on offer. The government isnt interested unless it's rugby, netball or horseracing. Nevermind, we still build the cars.

My buddy sold a 540 BB chev motor to someone in Australia a few years back. I understand parts etc. are difficult/expensive to find. My current car is under dave632 in the gallery, it has a 632BB in it. Sad to hear there is no support for drag racing in your country. I would look to corporate sponsorship as that is what is done here.
